A man who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males aged nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight children and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.

She said the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she added.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

Mrs Prior explained the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
